Start, & Graps the Sparrows Tail

Part Three of the Long Yang Form at Taichido: Study notes Module 1

Part Three starts as does Part Two with:
(9) Cross Hands, (10) Wrestle Tiger Return to Mountain"

and then GST sequence (from animated pic 4) as above.

1
cross hands

2
wrestle tiger

3a

Which in this instance is the same as the final phase as:

What is GST ?

GST is the abbreviation of "Grasp the Sparrows Tail Sequence".
This sequence (Short ending at Single Whip and Long at Wave Hands in Clouds) is the bedrock of the Yang Long form, and is repeated throughout the entire form.
It is not possible to claim any familiarity with the Long form until the GST sequence is known intimately

It is assumed that any Budoka contemplating study of Part Three of the Yang form are by this/that stage - intimately familiar with Grasp the Sparrows Tail Sequence.

These animation's are given to demonstrate my own personal characteristics only or as teaching aid to those not yet well versed in the form. For your further consideration towards making any decision to participate in ongoing sessions please click here to view "A String of Pearls" and look forward to meeting you on the web again soon!

Attention

Preparation

...

attention, preparation

Beginning ... and then ...

pivot right heel, cat stance left, hold a circle on the right hip, step with left ...

Your left hand goes up (leading with the thumb) and your right hand goes down ...

A small bird is visualized in/on your left hand; it takes off and your hand raises up gently beneath it and your right hand (which is 'high' and palm down holding a circle on the right hip)... travels a little forward and then in an arc downwards to finish (just for now) along side your right hip.

The full GST sequence would start off with the ward off left and ward off right moves below:

2
ward off left
Grasp the Sparrows Tail - Ward Off Left (facing north)
3
ward off right
Grasp the Sparrows Tail - Ward Off Right (facing east)

But in stage of part three, as in part two, wrestle tiger & return to mountain makes the GST sequence start from the rollback, (missing out the two moves above) and thus carries on:

3b
rollback
Grasp the Sparrows Tail - Rollback
(facing southeast)
4
press
Grasp the Sparrows Tail - Press
(facing northwest, going forward)
5
withdraw
Grasp the Sparrows Tail - Withdraw
(facing northwest, arms moving back)
6
push
Grasp the Sparrows Tail - Push
(facing east)
